What Happened at BioIT World 2014
The tranSMART Foundation had a great showing at the BioIT World 2014 Conference.
Pre-Conference Workshop: “The tranSMART Platform Today and Tomorrow”
45-55 people were present in the room for four hours of presentations. Keith gave a Foundation Update and Yike described the upcoming v1.2 Platform release. Three talks followed that described scientific projects using the current Platform by Sanofi, Harvard University and the collaboration between the University of Michigan and Johns Hopkins University.
One of the highlights for the week was the face-to-face Community Meeting on the evening of April 30th, graciously hosted by Converge Health by Deloitte. At least 100 attendees were present from foundation member groups as well as interested community scientists. They saw several of the exciting new features coming in the tranSMART v1.2 platform and were treated to the first live demo of the alpha version led by Yike and his team.
During the Bio-IT World Conference
5 papers were presented primarily focused on work where the tranSMART Platform played a central role. Scientists gave presentations from Roche, Pfizer, 1Boehringer Ingelheim and ThomsonReuters.
tranSMART also was honored as two projects won awards during the Conference. The U-BIOPRED Project “The tranSMART-based U-BIOPRED Study and Knowledge Management Platforms”, funded by IMI, was awarded a Best Practice Award in Research and Drug Discovery. In addition, work by a team from Boehringer Ingelheim and ThomsonReuters was a CHI Poster Competition Winner for their poster on “A work-flow based tranSMART system enabling scientists for fast and reliable genomic analysis”.
