i2b2 is a platform enabling clinical researchers to use existing clinical data for discovery research and, when combined with IRB-approved genomic data, facilitate the design of targeted therapies for individual patients with diseases having genetic origins. It is used by over 200 U.S. and European hospitals. i2b2 is supported by the i2b2 Foundation, a non-profit open-source software foundation overseeing the development and governance of the i2b2 platform. The i2b2 Academic Users’ Group (AUG) has been set up to serve as a forum for those academic health centers interested in implementing the i2b2 software suite. The i2b2 European AUG pursues the same mission in Europe. i2b2 Eu-AUG meetings bring together hundreds of academics, researchers and engineers using i2b2 from all over Europe and beyond.
Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP) and affiliated universities are organizing the 5th edition of the i2b2 EU-AUG meeting on 5th and 6th of October 2017. The conference with prestigious speakers will spotlight – in the context of i2b2 implementation – hot topics such as big data challenges for healthcare, networking data for better care, extending data repositories beyond clinical data and the view of patients on the benefits of reusing their data for research. Participation is upon registration only, but free, although participants will need to cover their own travel costs.
The organizers of the AUG meeting have added several presentations and posters to their schedule that were part of the Foundation Annual Meeting program. These include an overview of tranSMART, and introducing to SmartR and its future evolution, a new user interface called Glowing Bear, and a presentation from scientists from the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI) demonstrating the addition of Cytome functionality for tranSMART – a functionality to elevate the use of flow cytometry in translational research. These sessions are scheduled for Friday morning.
